Going the Extra Mile to Attract the Best Candidates
Active job seekers, the ones who are unemployed or really need to find a job, will go to a lot of effort to dig up jobs and will apply even if the job posting isn’t written well. These may very well be qualified applicants, but they are only a small part of the pool. The truth is, the majority of job seekers, and often the most qualified ones, are already employed – perhaps happily so. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t “passively” keeping their eyes open. In order for your recruiting strategy to be the most effective, you need to write your job postings to attract these pickier candidates. How do you do that?
Recruitment expert Peter Weddle says in his recent newsletter that the answer lies in crafting a well-written job posting that lures top prospects into reading your job posting, and then acting on it – despite their comfortable employment status. His advice is to include the following in the first four lines of your online job posting:
- A compelling statement about why the position would be a great candidate’s “dream job”
